Who are We Here for?

Urban areas are experiencing rapid growth, highlighting the need for comprehensive policies that address housing, healthcare, and infrastructure challenges. The middle class, which plays a central role in driving economic growth due to its income and social status, faces complexities such as job instability and lifestyle insecurities. Integrating these factors is crucial for developing informed policies and sustainable development strategies that support diverse urban populations and improve overall quality of life. ABCEL’s initiatives aim to enhance the well-being of the middle class in urban areas, aligning with the aspirations and needs of these diverse communities.

Our initial steer involves focusing on Two distinct cohorts, each at a unique life transition, eager to adapt, learn, and redefine their place in the world.

ज्येष्ठ: Seasoned citizens

Focused on Men & Women, age 60+

People aged 60 can expect to live another 18-20 years. Their share in India's total population, will increase significantly over the next decade.

This change in longevity is recent, and yet to be socially internalised.

The cliché idea of ageing needs to be refreshedto include the contemporary reality of
mature youthfulness, mental agility, measured physical ability and independence.

योद्धा: Armed forces' veterans

Focused on Officers

60,000 Armed forces' veterans in the age bracket of 35 – 46 years, retire every year. Still in their prime, they are eager to explore new avenues for purposeful engagement.

They are mid-career professionals bringing in a plethora of experience to civilian roles.

Socially they feel disconnected from their families, and the new civilian social context. Socio-psychological interventions are required to bridge the gap for our soldiers.
